Our name literally means "we fight all martial arts systems" in the Filipino language (Tagalog). When translated into English it means Filipino Mixed Martial Arts. This unique system is a Mixed Martial Art with the strongest fighting systems of the Philippines as our primary influence.
In 2006, Filipino MMA was officially recognized as a Filipino Fighting System because of its potent mixture of several martial arts systems including Wing Chun, Jeet Kune Do (JKD), Kick Boxing, Kenpo Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, Jiujitsu, Grappling, Eskrima, Arnis and Kali (Stick and Knife fighting), Filipino Boxing (Empty Hand) plus several other obscure arts.
We are members of the United States Kali Association under Tuhon Gaudiosa Ruby, and members of the International Martial Arts Council of America under Professor Marty Cale. Our system was recently featured in a special to the Las Vegas Sun below.
The core advantage found with any Filipino Martial Arts system is the way it adapts to circumstances and situations. This makes it the perfect foundation for law enforcement and security. It also makes it the perfect glue to hold any MMA system together and give its practitioner the distinct competitive advantage.

In the Philippines, martial arts are a part of everyone's life to some extent. Children practice from a young age, and even the senior citizens are known to carry a knife or stick for self-defense. Before guns, the blade and stick systems were developed over thousands of years dating back to the first warriors long before Lapu-Lapu.
When guns came on the scene during the occupation of the Philippines, the adaptability of Filipino Martial Arts became apparent by the ease with which firearms were integrated in. This baffled Europeans because the prevailing hand-to-hand combat style at the time was the back-knuckle Irish style, which focused on using only hands and keeping the opponent at a distance. Filipino warriors would bridge the gap and work inside the opponent's guard with hands, elbows, knees, feet and blades.
European hand-to-hand combat quickly became outdated by the close-range, more agile Filipino Boxing (Empty Hand) that was almost as deadly without weapons as it was with a blade or stick. The Filipino fighters would not only strike the face and body, but also the arms, hands, legs and feet to "disarm" their opponents so that they could then attack the face and body with less risk of being counter-attacked or blocked.
Further military occupation gave the Philippines gradual widespread recognition for its martial arts excellence, such that it became sought after by notable masters including Bruce Lee and countless others looking to enhance their skill by mixing their martial arts training. In fact, Filipino Boxing (Empty Hand) created the modern American Boxing system that is now dominant worldwide.
Filipino MMA does not waste time on forms and useless patterns. We go straight to the important parts of any violent encounter:
With many of our students and instructors having extensive ongoing police and military training, we incorporate police training techniques for disarming sticks, bats, knives, swords, handguns and even machine guns.
Because we understand the dynamics of a fight or violent crime, we don't just train stand-up or ground fighting. We take it a step further and train knife fighting on your feet and on the ground, as well as fighting with alternative weapons such as pens, pencils, school books, car keys, shoes and anything you have available to survive.
Footwork
Study our fighters and you'll see Filipino MMA uses a fluid multi-purpose stance and shuffle that serve leg as well as hand strikes with the same speed and power but without shifting that could signal to your opponent that you're about to attack. It also keeps a solid center of gravity that will give you the torque to execute hard takedowns but also prevent being taken down yourself.
Hand Strikes
Wing Chun is probably most famous for its hand techniques, which is standard police training in Thailand. Our 2-for-1 striking policy is a good example of how we use economy of motion because it allows you to execute multiple strikes immediately after each other all from the same momentum you used to execute the first strike.
Leg Strikes
The power of traditional Tae Kwon Do, Kenpo Karate and Chinese Kick Boxing are amplified by our fighting stance and close-range orientation. We emphasize mastery of the 5 basic kicks, plus knee and heel strikes as well. You will be amazed at how fast and strong your leg strikes become when you begin your training because we work on the muscle groups specifically used to do the techniques.
Grappling
On the ground we rely on Jiujitsu mixed with Filipino Grappling techniques that are highly unknown on the MMA fight circuit. Our grappling includes starting from the defensive as well as offensive positions, and we frequently train grappling with weapons to simulate a real-life situation.
Weapons
If you go to an Eskrima school and don't do tire training you are missing out on your core speed and power. Tire training with Kali sticks builds superior forearm strength for Filipino Boxing (Empty Hand) and Grappling. When we train with bladed weapons we often use dummy blades to spar with so that you learn knife strikes properly and realistically. When we do stick training we incorporate the basic drills with padded sparring.
We will not give away our training secrets because we owe it to our students and fighters who survive and win often based on their Filipino MMA advantage. The most we will say is that we use a nucleus training system and unique training gear that allows you to constantly test your techniques to the point where you will wake up every morning with total confidence in your skills.
Many of our fighters go professional in 2010 and have impressive amateur records, such as Odis "Alex" Ruiz and Gor Mnatsakanyan. We usually compete in all local MMA tournaments including the upcoming Tuff-N-Uff Championship. Our fighters are all student-teachers who not only train themselves but also their fellow students, so you always get the benefit of our nucleus teaching method.
If you are a MMA fighter or looking to get into MMA, do yourself a favor and learn the Laban sa Lahat (Filipino MMA) System. Our trainers have over 25 years experience.
